The first term back to school can set the tone for the whole year. Starting off on the right foot can pave the way for success.
- Help your child set and follow routines. If they know all the steps needed to get ready in the morning, the day will start much smoother.
- Model how to plan for the future. This is a learned skill that many students will need support to develop. Showing students how to take a large assignment or test and break it down can help them succeed.
- Set small goals and celebrate with your child when he or she reaches them. Small goals like remembering all school materials or reading for 10 minutes a day can help students learn to how to create goals and self-reflect. Learning to make goals is an important, life-long skill - start early so later years are fruitful.
