The Great Outdoors

Does it ever feel like walking outside is a breath of fresh air...literally? After being inside a classroom for most of the day, taking a few minutes or even hours to spend time outside can greatly help students. Spending time outside can: increase happiness increase concentration improves sleep give you a nice boost of Vitamin D (which is important for developing strong bones and having a strong immune system) Here at SISD, we try to use our amazing outdoor learning environments as much as possible. We have multiple outdoor areas where students can deepen their learning connections and get a chance for a movement break. So whether it's just a cup of tea in the garden or a day-long hike in RAK, the great outdoors is a wonderful resource for students and parents alike!

The Benefits of Art

We've all seen mindfulness coloring books that promise to make us more relaxed and present. But does it really work? Studies have shown that coloring, crafting, etc. can relax the amygdala - the fear center of our brain. This creates a sense of calm and quiet. Integrating art into a home routine can also benefit your child. Art can help learners develop creative problem-solving skills, motor skills, critical thinking skills, and give them another way to express themselves.  SISD students created some amazing art work at school! What do you think you could make with your child at home?
